Whether you’re on the beat, in the road policing unit or part of the forensic collision investigation team, you need professional, high-quality lighting solutions to help cover your night shifts. At NightSearcher, we’ve designed and developed a selection of portable LED lighting solutions with the emergency services in mind. Our range of searchlights, flashlights and scene lighting all suit very particular applications and cross most divisions within the force. However, regardless of their application, our lights have a very important mission - helping to improve your situational awareness, your vision, and your personal safety at night.

With so many models and applications to choose from, we’ve put together this guide to help you choose the perfect partner in crime (fighting).

Response Police

Lighting Solutions for Response Police | NightSearcher

Response officers are at the heart of uniformed policing and will typically be the first police officer many members of the public encounter. Victims, witnesses, and suspects can often be vulnerable, volatile or both. As a response officer, you need to assess any immediate threats and quickly decide the best action that will keep you and the public safe. This can be made incredibly difficult in adverse conditions and / or in poor lighting.

Flashlights

A professional flashlight should be standard issue for any response officer – something that is bright, powerful, and durable, yet compact and lightweight too.

Our Magnum and Zoom ranges fall into our professional flashlight offerings, but more specifically for Response Officers, we suggest the Mini Magnum and the Zoom 1000R. Both flashlights are compact, fully rechargeable, and most importantly, incredibly robust. The Magnum’s superiority lies in the lumens output, at 2,000 lumens and its certified IP68 rating – meaning it’s highly resistant to exposure to water and dust.

Our most popular police torch, the Zoom 1000R, falls a little behind with a 1,000 lumens output and an IP66 rating, but the LED flashlight excels with its spot-to-flood beam zoom feature and rear-mounted, tactical switch. The Mini Magnum on the contary, has a fixed wide beam and standard mounted switch. The Zoom 1000R has an impressive beam distance of 600 metres compared to the Mini Magnums 400 metres, and at half the weight of the Mini Magnum, the Zoom 1000R gets our recommendation as the preferred flashlight for Response Police Officers.

First of all, tough jobs. Second of all, what an arsenal of equipment you need for the job! No doubt there’s nothing easy about being responsible for and attending the scene of fatal and life-threatening collisions and / or crimes. Gathering and providing expert evidence to the investigation team and the criminal justice system requires focus and meticulous attention to detail – we tip our hats to you.

Lighting Solutions for Forensic Police | NightSearcher

Hopefully, we can help to make your jobs that little bit easier with our portable LED scene lights. Introduce a veil of bright, consistent lighting to the scene and aid yourself in the delivery of competent, factual reconstructive reports and evidential statements.

Scene Lighting

We have a broad collection of rechargeable, portable LED scene lighting, but two products designed for direct application in accidents and emergencies are the MegaStar Kit and the Solaris Pro. Both lights can be on scene and fully operational with minimal setup time and both are direct replacements for I/C generator powered scene lighting too.

MegaStar Kit

The MegaStar Kit is perfect for crime scene investigation – being designed as a more semi-permanent lighting rig. It offers a battery run time of up to 16 hours and at full power it boasts a massive 20,000 lumens output. Install and erect in less than a minute and paint the scene in an ultra-bright cloak of diffused, glare-free lighting. With zero light bleed from the back panel, the MegaStar provides optimum condition for on scene photography.

Supplied with a lightweight, telescopic tripod, the MegaStar’s lamp head can be raised to a height of 3.5 metres and projects a 50-metre flood beam. Not only is the MegaStar quick and easy to assemble, but it’s also compact and dismantles down into its very own carry bag. The full setup weighs in at 11.5kg and several of them easily fits into the boot of any emergency services vehicle - with enough room for spare batteries too!

Solaris Pro

The Solaris Pro and Pro X are a family of high-powered, long-life portable floodlights. They’re dual-purpose too and can be used as a carried searchlight and / or a fixed-mount floodlight. Perfect for first response lighting - they can be setup in seconds and with their fully adjustable lamp head the Solaris Pro can be positioned and orientated as required. Quickly and effectively illuminate any scene with 16,000 lumens output, and with up to 48 hours battery runtime, you can programme the light for optimum performance throughout your operation.

Searchlights

When a crime scene is spread over a wide area or a long distance, then handheld lighting can often be the best accompaniment to scene lighting. Look for the needle in the haystack and find that all important missing piece of evidence with a handheld search light or portable work light. Equally formidable whilst in pursit or on the search for missing persons too. For these tasks we offer up the HawkStar and the Galaxy Pro 6K for suggestion.

HawkStar

The NightSearcher HawkStar and HawkStar X are a pair of powerful, professional, and versatile LED searchlights that are implicitly designed for use by the emergency services. You can find out more about the HawkStar in our recent Product Spotlight, but further to their versatility and brightness, the HawkStar searchlights are also incredibly durable. The searchlight has been crash tested at 70MPH (112KPH) where it remained in its cradle undamaged. This makes the HawkStar a reliable choice for emergency situations where durability is critical.

Galaxy Pro 6K

The new and improved Galaxy Pro 6k is the ultimate rechargeable LED floodlight and work light. Constructed from the toughest composite material, the Galaxy Pro 6k is designed for use in harsh and industrial applications – making it ideal for emergency scene lighting. Not only is the Galaxy Pro super-bright with its 6000 lumens output, but it’s also incredibly light, weighing just 1.5kg. Setup and reposition an immediate safety area with the Galaxy Pro, and with 4 lighting modes and up to 60 hours battery runtime, it’ll cover any operation.

Forensic UV Flashlights

Ultraviolet light allows investigators to find and recover evidence from areas which previously could have been missed or has remained undetected. With many biological fluids being naturally florescent, traces can be illuminated with light of a certain frequencey, making them fluoresce and become visible to the investigator.

UV lights also play an active role in the detection of counterfiet money and documents too.

Our UV365 Max is a new and upgraded version of our popular UV365 rechargeable UV flashlight. A heavy-duty ultraviolet flashlight, the UV365 Max is constructed from aircraft grade aluminium making it incredible durable and robust, yet it remains compact and lightweight. The 365nm wavelength enables the detection of suspect items with 100 metres coverage without dark spots.

The UV365-AA carries all of the same specifications as the UV365 Max with the only difference being its power source. As the name implies, the UV365-AA accepts and is powered by 2x AA dry cell batteries instead of the rechargeable pencil battery which powers the UV365 Max.

Road Policing Units

Road policing is a very varied and rewarding role that requires specialist driving skills as well as the ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies. Among other duties, attending and controlling the scene of road-related incidents, including those which may be serious, fatal and life altering is by know means an easy task. At any time of the year, such duties can be challenging, but even more so during the winter when the nights are longer and typically, colder.

Lighting Solutions for Road Policing Units | NightSearcher

At NightSearcher, we’ve designed a collection of portable and emergency LED lighting solutions with road policing in mind. All of which fall in alignment with our mission statement to improve your situational awareness, vision, and personal safety at night.

Searchlights and Flashlights

When it comes to handheld lights, we have a plethora of products, but we suggest sticking to the options already outlaid above – the HawkStar as a superbright, durable searchlight, and the Zoom 1000R or Mini Magnum as powerful flashlights. It might be worth considering other torches from the Magnum range as the need to carry them on your person isn’t required – so it might be worth upgrading to a slightly more robust and tougher model. The Magnum 3000 is a worthy contender as a high-performance and heavy-duty LED flashlight.

Panther XHP-X

An old favourite within the Police force in the NightSearcher Panther XHP-X searchlight. With a unique, deep-dish, parabolic reflector, designed to facilitate maximum distance-to-lumens ratio, the Panther can propel a beam of light to an incredible distance of 1000 metres. Unmatched in its class when it comes to ultra-bright, precision spot beams, the Panther XHP-X can illuminate precise targets at across a great expanse.

Hazard Warning Lights

Arguably, one of the most important roles of Road Policing is making safe a scene after an accident or incident. With the safety of yourselves and the public at the forefront of this requirement, we’ve developed a range of road hazard warning lights to aid you with this. The NavStar is the latest model within our range of Pulsar Hazard Warning Lights - Available as a set of 10 sequential hazard lights, housed in a high-impact, shock resistant carry case.

Pulsar NavStar

The NavStar can and should take pride of place in the boot of any road policing vehicle. NavStar enables emergency services personnel to close off a hazardous area in quick time and as safely as possible. Arriving on scene fully prepared and fully charged - when stowed, the lights are contained within and charged by the carry case. Once removed, each light pod will automatically switch on and sequence with the previously removed light. This automatic switch on feature facilitates a fast deployment to help ensure the officers safety on a live carriageway.

With a simple two-button operation, you can choose between 6 flashing modes and 3 light colours, or combinations thereof to establish an ultra-bright light cordon. Each NavStar has a 360-degree illumination zone, which can be seen from over 1 kilometre away. In the UK, Pulsar NavStar conforms to Schedule 13, Part 10: Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 (TSRGD) when operating in blue and amber light modes, making them the ideal companion for the Police, Fire, and Search and Rescue services.

Emergency Escape Tool

Last, but by no means least, our final product offering for Road Policing Units is the NightSearcher LifeGuard – a product that we believe everyone should have but hope no one has to use. A lifesaving tool, the LifeGuard is a 5-in-1 emergency escape kit with some essential, built-in tools.

Two of the most important safety features include a belt cutter – enabling you to cut yourself, or someone else, quickly from a seat belt. The other key feature is its spring-loaded window breaker. With toughened, protective glass, vehicle windows are extremely hard to smash. If you were to find yourself on scene with a vehicle that might have rolled over, or has the doors pinned and restricted, then the LifeGuard can be used to quickly and effectively break the side windows. Providing the occupants with what could be a life-saving escape route.

In conclusion, we hope that this list of essential police lighting equipment is helpful to you, and we wish you a safe shift within your chosen division. For more information about these or any of our professional LED lighting solutions, please feel free to contact your NightSearch Sales Manager.
